Barely-there brows, bold lips, and dewy skin all make the cut.
Twinkling, metallic lids, bold lip shades, barely-there brows, and layers of blush are probably already taking over your For You Page, as they’re some of the biggest beauty and makeup trends for summer 2023.
We spoke with top celebrity artists Daniel Martin, Danessa Myricks, and Kristofer Buckle for their thoughts on the heat-proof makeup looks worth trying over the next few months. Read on for all the best summer 2023 makeup trends straight from the experts, and if you’re looking for more of beauty inspiration for summer, be sure to check out our picks for the best hair and nail polish ideas to round out your rotation.
According to celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, one of summer 2023’s makeup trends is undoubtedly no-brow eyebrows. Kylie Jenner paired hers with an icy blonde wig for fashion campaign images as the new face of Jean Paul Gaultier.

As an added beauty bonus, you don’t necessarily have to bleach your brows to channel this summer makeup trend. At the Versace 2023 Spring/Summer runway show, supermodel Bella Hadid wore a lightly tinted brow down the runway.
“I love this because it adds a strength to the eyes, allowing your eye makeup to be the focus,” Martin tells BAZAAR.com. “Eyebrows create a framework in the region of the face where getting rid of it opens that space up to really see makeup and color on the lips more vividly.” On singer Shygirl, celebrity makeup artist Raisa Flowers leaned into the trend, pairing a bold, pigmented eye and nude lip with her bleach blonde brows.
If you’re just looking to test the waters of this buzzy trend, Martin suggests rubbing white eyeliner onto a disposable mascara spoolie and brushing it over your brows. He swears by NYX’s Professional Retractable Eye Liner to cancel out the color of your natural hairs. “This will look white, but once you take foundation over the hair, it cancels out the color while still keeping your brow shape intact,” he adds.
And to lock in your barely there brows, Martin suggests setting them with a powder puff and Tatcha’s culty Silk Powder for maximum staying power.
Beauty often comes full circle, and the retro-inspired blush moment celebrity artist and Haus Labs global artistry director Sarah Tanno created for Lady Gaga’s 2023 Oscars look earned its spot on our list of all-time favorites.
In addition to a flawless cut crease, artist Patrick Ta gave Lori Harvey a little extra flush with a vibrant, orange-y hue at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
We’re also obsessed with this bold blush the artist crafted on supermodel Gigi Hadid. Her vibrant pink, monochromatic look nods to another of our favorite makeup trends of the season: Barbiecore.
Whether you decide to use your fingers or a makeup brush to apply Pat McGrath Labs’ Divine Blush balm, we’re betting you won’t be disappointed by its pigmented color payoff. The twist-up packaging makes it a breeze to apply exactly where you want.
Fans of the formula behind Makeup by Mario’s Surreal Skin Foundation will love the brand’s new blush. It features a silky, hyaluronic acid-based formula that plumps your cheeks as you wear it.

Effortlessly dewy skin is something many of us aspire to have, which makes it even more beneficial that the look is trending for summer 2023. “It isn’t a new trend, but advanced technologies in skincare and new makeup innovations make it more easily achievable for those who aren’t into makeup,” Martin says.
While models walking the Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer 2023 show took their glow factor up a few notches, their minimal makeup looks placed an emphasis on hydrated, luminous skin.

Models glistened backstage at Sandy Liang, with makeup artists paying special attention to the décolleté and cheekbones, along with the inner corners of the eyes.
Pair vibrant, loose pigments—or even your favorite eyeshadow—over a deep liner or lipstick like artist and influencer Nikkie de Jager for a signature weird girl effect.
“Use a lip brush, lip liner, and concealer on a stiff brush to help clean up the edge,” celebrity makeup artist Kristofer Buckle advises. “I love this look because I think it’s easy and doesn’t require much skill, and it’s open ended, so you can customize to your complexion,” he adds. “It’s also non-committal. If it’s not working, you just wipe it off, and the rest of your makeup is still intact and try another color or effect.”
If you’re looking for more of a boost to enhance your dazzling eye makeup, lean into the trend with the addition of a few gem adornments for added twinkle.
According to Martin, the featherweight foundation trend offers up the perfect canvas for summer. “This look is great for those who don’t wear makeup but want to feel polished,” he says.

Summer months provide the perfect opportunity to be more playful with your beauty look. On the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala, actress Vanessa Hudgens gave us ultimate inspiration by playing up her eyes with bold, cat-eye liner that stole the show.
