Rock House Turks & Caicos

The Turks & Caicos islands are already a favorite destination for celebrities like Donna Karan and Keith Richards, who own homes there. Next year, this Caribbean paradise is getting an exciting new resort designed by AD100 alum Shawn Henderson and Coast Architects. Sister property to the Grace Bay Club and a member of Leading Hotels of the World, it will have a Mediterranean-inspired design with a beach club, oceanfront dining, and the largest infinity pool in Turks & Caicos. The Fifth Avenue Hotel

Situated in New York City’s posh NoMad neighborhood, this luxurious hotel (also a member of Leading Hotels of the World) will combine a historic residence designed by storied architecture firm McKim, Mead & White with a new 24-story addition by Perkins Eastman. AD100 designer Martin Brudnizki is behind the interiors, which are inspired by the Gilded Age with a rich color palette and objets d’art. The Maybourne Riviera

The Maybourne Hotel Group (the brand behind Claridge’s, the Connaught, and the Berkeley in London) will debut their first foray into France on the fabled French Riviera. They’ve tapped not one but six designers—André Fu, Bryan O’Sullivan Studio, Marcelo Joulia, Pierre Yovanovitch, Pascal Goujon, and Rigby & Rigby—each of whom will add their distinct style to the project, which includes 69 rooms and suites and a variety of culinary destinations. Jean-Georges Vongerichten will debut his first restaurant in the south of France, and Hiro Sato will add a world class sushi experience, but the big-ticket restaurant is sure to be the one by Mauro Colagreco, whose restaurant Mirazur was named the world’s best restaurant in 2019. Opening spring 2022; themaybourneriviera.com

Occupying 11 floors of a 101-story skyscraper by AD100 architect Jeanne Gang, this luxurious new offering will wow guests with its sleek design and 360-degree views of Chicago and Lake Michigan. There will be 192 rooms and suites, several dining options, a spa and fitness center with an indoor pool, and a 5,000-square-foot ballroom for events. Opening spring 2022; Marriott.com

The Gleneagles Town House

Scotland’s famed countryside resort is expanding its brand for the first time ever and opening a city hotel in Edinburgh. Ennismore Studio (also behind the hip Hoxton brand) has spent five years restoring the landmarked building, which was formerly the Bank of Scotland. Expect 33 rooms, a lively all-day restaurant, a rooftop bar, a club for members, and a wellness center in the old vault. Both the original resort and the town house are members of Leading Hotels of the World. Opening spring 2022; Gleneagles.com

Hotel La Palma

Capri has no shortage of luxurious hotels, but it’s getting another one courtesy of Oetker Collection, the brand behind the famed Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc on the French Riviera and the Lanesborough in London. It represents a rebirth for Capri’s first hotel built in 1822, and is the first hotel by AD100 designer Francis Sultana. Expect artful interiors in Sultana’s classic-meets-contemporary style, with 50 rooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant and bar, pool deck, spa, and beach club. Opening April 2022; oetkercollection.com

From the team behind Tel Aviv’s chic Hotel Montefiore comes this ultra-luxe, 11-key hotel in a 1933 Bauhaus building in Lev Hair, the city’s vibrant cultural hub. AN+ is in charge of the preservation work, while the interiors and furnishings are being designed by Liaigre. Piet Oudolf—one of the masterminds behind the High Line in New York City—is responsible for the landscape architecture. There will be a rooftop pool, an outpost of the brand’s Brasserie establishment, a chef-driven restaurant with a daily changing menu, and chic lounge spaces. Hotel Marcel

Named for Marcel Breuer, the architect of the original 1970 building in which it’s housed, this groundbreaking hotel will be the first net-zero and passive house certified hotel in the U.S. Part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection, the hotel will give new life to Breuer’s landmarked Pirelli building in New Haven, which lay vacant for decades. Dutch East Design has been enlisted to soften up the Brutalist architecture with warm earth tones and rich textures for the interiors. There will be 165 rooms and suites, a new American restaurant, and an art program highlighting female artists with a nod to the Bauhaus movement. Opening April 2022; hotelmarcel.com

Rosewood Vienna

An 18th-century building with a former life as a bank is being transformed into Rosewood’s fifth European hotel—and it’s sure to be stunning. Overseen by BEHF Corporate Architects with interiors by London firm Alexander Waterworth Interiors, it will have 99 spacious rooms and suites, a rooftop bar with incredible views of the city, an intimate restaurant in a garden setting, and a signature spa, among other amenities. Opening summer 2022; rosewoodhotels.com

Passalacaqua

The De Santis family behind Lake Como’s luxurious Grand Hotel Tremezzo is transforming a spectacular 18th-century villa built by a count into an intimate 24-room hotel. The family is working closely with Bamo Studio to bring the villa back to its former glory, which involves restoring frescoes, creating secret bars, and landscaping terraced gardens with beautiful views of the lake. No two suites will be the same and among them will Lake Como’s largest suite, where Bellini once played the piano. Opening June 2022; passalacqua.it

Six Senses Rome

Wellness-focused brand Six Senses is set to make its Italian debut next year—and it’s bound to be a showstopper. Set in an 18th-century, UNESCO-listed palazzo overlooking bustling Via del Corso, the 95-room hotel is being designed by Patricia Urquiola. Naturally, the spa and Roman baths will take up a significant amount of real estate, but another major draw will be the rooftop terrace. On the ground floor, a trattoria with an open kitchen will welcome locals and visitors with modern interpretations of Italian cuisine. Opening September 2022; sixsenses.com

And Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge

After And Beyond’s lodge in Tanzania’s Grumeti Reserve was flooded in April 2020, they decided to rebuild it with a new design by longtime collaborator Fox Browne Creative and architectural designer Jack Alexander. The new design brings guests even closer to the incredible landscape and makes the lodge more sustainable—a new solar system will allow it to run on 80% renewable energy. The Pinch

Two Victorian-era structures in the heart of downtown Charleston are being revived by Method Co., the Philadelphia company behind hip Wm. Mulherin’s Son and Roost Apartment Hotels. They’re bringing in acclaimed architect Morris Adjmi and local firm LS3P to transform the buildings into a chic hotel with 26 apartment-style accommodations with full kitchens as well as washer and dryers. Just off the lobby will be a turn-of-the-century-inspired oyster and cocktail bar in addition to a romantic destination restaurant serving refined takes on Lowcountry cooking. Opening early winter 2022; thepinch.com

Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences

Marking Raffles’ first mixed-use property in North America, this 35-story building will be a new landmark in Boston’s posh Back Bay. Its three-story sky lobby will be a first for the city, offering panoramic views of Copley Square and the surrounding area. The project includes 146 residences designed by the Rockwell Group, while the hotel portion is being designed by Stonehill Taylor. Expect show-stopping spaces like a rooftop garden terrace, five restaurants and bars, and a spa with a 20-meter indoor pool. Opening 2022; raffles.com

Sommerro

This luxurious new member of Preferred Hotels will give new life to the former headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city’s original electrical company. The design by local firm LPO Architects in collaboration with New York and London GrecoDeco will pay homage to the building’s 1930s heritage with Art Deco details and a giant wall fresco and ceiling mural portraying the wonders of electricity. There will be four restaurants, including one on the rooftop terrace, which will also have the city’s first rooftop pool and sauna. The building’s original public baths are being restored and expanded into an 8,000-square-foot underground wellness center complete with treatment rooms, Roman baths, infrared sauna, and a cold plunge pool for a Nordic thermotherapy experience. Opening September 2022; sommerrohouse.com
