Going Up: Century Plaza
I’m enormously excited about the new Century Plaza towers, with their anticipated opening date in early 2019. My friend Mary Ann Osborn is keeping me apprised on this project, which combines high-rise luxury and cosmopolitan lifestyle.
The iconic Century Plaza Hotel, which opened in 1966, and the Century Plaza Towers, which opened in 1975, were designed by Minoru Yamasaki and quickly came to identify the Century City skyline. The new Century Plaza adds a pair of 46-story glass towers on the west side of the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, which “extends and dramatizes the visual axis established by the orientation of Yamasaki’s twin office towers toward his earlier hotel.”
At the same time, the public spaces are being reimagined, from the new entry plaza on the Avenue of the Stars, to the Lobby Breezeway and the landscaped public gardens. There will be a retail pavilion and, eventually, a Metro Purple Line station.
The residential towers feature elegant interior architecture and, unique to the 12th and 14th floor, two-level residences. Chef’s kitchens, oversized bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms, private terraces, and incomparable vistas will define each condominium home. The adjacent Hotel will offer full service luxury residences–glamorous pied-à-terre styled with Hollywood flair and situated for unmatched convenience.
