Hublot Celebrates The Return Of Yellow Gold With Six Limited Editions In Core Collections
The yellow gold watch, which has been overshadowed by stainless steel for the past two decades, is making a comeback. Hublot is participating in the renaissance with six special-editions in yellow gold across its core collections, including Classic Fusion Chronograph, Big Bang Integral, Big Bang Unico and Spirit of Big Bang.
Hublot’s first yellow gold piece, the Classic Original, hit the market in 1980, just as yellow gold watches were heading for the spotlight. They were all the rage in the ’80s and ’90s, but fell out of fashion at the turn of the millennium, mocked as show-off pieces, synonymous with ostentatious displays of wealth and for making too much of a statement. Today, alloys of yellow gold are softer in color, and watches are smaller in scale, which adds up to a more sophisticated yellow gold watch.
Hublot says the six new yellow gold pieces together embody the aesthetic and technical elements of Hublot’s signature. Aside from all being yellow gold, they variously showcase skeleton work, in-house movements and gemsetting.
The collection includes the first yellow gold version of the Classic Fusion Chronograph in a 42mm size, and represents Hublot’s role as a pioneer of luxury sports watches. The case of the Big Bang Integral was designed from a single block of gold and is available in two diamond versions, one set with 5.4 carats and the other, with 17 carats. The Big Bang Unico comes with a rubber strap, commemorating the fact that Hublot was one of the first brands to pair a rubber bracelet with a gold watch case.
The Spirit of Big Bang in yellow gold is the only one in the new collection with a tonneau-shaped case, with surfaces that are alternately polished and satin finished. The skeletonized piece has a high-frequency caliber ,HUB4700, one of the most accurate movements available. All have 42mm cases and contrasting black elements. Prices: Classic Fusion Chronograph ($26,800), Big Bang Integral ($52,500), Big Bang Unico ($36,700), Spirit of Big Bang ($40,500).
