Seven Ways to Make Your Bedroom Feel Like a Luxury Hotel Room
There are few things in life I love more than the feeling of indulging in a relaxing, luxe hotel room. Somehow those hotel beds always manage to feel like a fluffy cloud you could live on and the sheets feel as soft as spun silk. And don’t even get me started on the bathrobes… it takes a lot to pry me out of those. So what is it about hotel rooms that make you feel so good? It’s all in the details, and those details can be easily recreated at home. Here are seven ways to make your bedroom feel like a luxury hotel room fit for sleep and rejuvenation.
Luxe Bed & Bedding
The easiest way to add luxury in your bedroom is to outfit your bed with a luxury mattress and a gorgeous set of sheets. To get the hotel room look, go for a crisp, white set of sheets that are at least 300 thread count. Hotel rooms tend to use sateen or percale sheets, but you should choose the material that feels most comfortable to you.
If you really want to splurge, you can have your sheets professionally laundered, so they come home nice and pressed. And if you find a brand of linens that you truly love, consider purchasing two or three sets so you always have them on hand.
Fresh Flowers
Always having an arrangement of fresh flowers in your bedroom instantly makes you feel like you’re in a luxe hotel room or a spa. I like to get fresh flowers from Trader Joe’s every week. They have super affordable options and a good rotation of whatever is in season! Or, when I have more time, I love going to the flower market downtown where there is an endless selection of fresh flowers and plants. This is a great place to get orchids, as they tend to be higher quality and last a lot longer!
Warm Lighting
You’ll notice that almost all hotel rooms have lamps or sconces on either side of the bed. This always helps pull the room together visually and also allows you to turn off the overhead light and create a warm and cozy mood in your space. Sconces look better in matched pairs, but lamps can easily be mixed and matched, although I prefer symmetry so I like my lamps to match as well.
If you already have lamps or sconces but don’t feel like the lighting is quite right, try lower wattage or even a soft color bulb like pink. The color of the light will dramatically change the vibe of your bedroom.
Area Rug
A soft statement rug underneath the bed really pulls a bedroom together. Stick with the color scheme of the room, and try to go for a pattern that is not too busy. Remember that you will usually be standing on this rug with bare feet, so the softer (and the fluffier!), the better.
European Shams
Luxury hotels spend a lot of time thinking through the pillow combinations on their beds. Oftentimes you’ll see oversized square pillows, also known as European shams, anchoring the back of your hotel bed. They offer visual impact but are functional, too.
These large pillows are the ones I always grab when I want to get lost in a book in bed. They let you lean back and get super comfy without having to lay down. While they do require specially-sized pillowcases, European shams do an amazing job of helping make your bed look (and feel!) super luxe, so they’re worth a bit of extra effort.
Wireless Speakers
Another great way to make your bedroom feel like a hotel room is to add a nice looking wireless speaker. This is also a good option if you don’t have a TV (or want to ditch your TV, which is what I do for better sleep). These speakers sync up with your phone or computer and allow you to listen to music, podcasts or even books.
Plush Robe
For a truly luxe indulgence, get yourself a plush bathrobe. If you have a favorite from a particular hotel, you can often purchase it directly from the hotel and have it charged to your room (or if you’re still lusting after a robe from a previous trip, call the hotel to see if they can send you one). Online retailers also has a lot of great options as well! This sort of a splurge will help you bring that same vacation vibe home and will keep the memories alive from your special trip.
