Whether you are a surfer, an avid sailing enthusiast, or a fresh seafood lover, all roads lead to the coastal community of Newport Beach. One of Orange County's sparkling gems, it's best known for its upscale shopping and dining, as well as some of the best beachfront luxury real estate in all of Southern California. The median home price for Newport Beach real estate lies around $1.7 million, but that's only for the average home in the market. Luxury properties in the city can sell for as much as $50 million. Like most of the California coast, Newport Beach started out as a part of a sprawling land grant, this one awarded to Jose Antonio Yorba. Eventually, Newport Beach transformed into an affluent community of over 80,000 residents, spread across highly coveted neighborhoods like Corona del Mar, Balboa Island, and Pelican Hill.

People & Lifestyle
At first glance, Newport Beach looks like it rivals the great European resort cities as a playground for the wealthy and the famous. And it is. Many high-profile personalities live or maintain properties in Newport Beach, from A-list actors and actresses to industry leaders and top athletes. But because of Newport Beach's ample supply for conveniences, outdoor recreation, and year-round perfect weather, the city is a top choice for families. It's also a regular fixture in lists of top places to live in the country.
Dining, Entertainment
& Shopping
It's easy to find a nice place to treat yourself in Newport Beach. The city is literally overrun with highly rated restaurants, whether you're after a fine dining experience or a casual meal post-surfing. Some of the most revered restaurants in Newport Beach include The Winery, Javier's Restaurant, and Mastro's Ocean Club. All three are sophisticated dining spots that specialize in Californian food, Mexican cuisine, and seafood, respectively.
And since Newport Beach is located right by the Pacific Ocean, fresh seafood is always in supply. The best place to go to is Dory Fleet Market. It's a fixture in Newport Beach lifestyle, having been around since the late 19th century. You can purchase various fruits of the sea here, from urchins every Saturday to gigantic yellowtails and red snappers from Wednesday onwards.
Fresh seafood isn't the only perk that comes with being located by the sea. Newport Beach is blessed with stunning views and an endless array of outdoor recreation. Go for a long walk at the Environmental Nature Center, enjoy a good book and some afternoon tea at the Sherman Library and Gardens, and if you're looking for a rush of adrenaline, try and conquer the massive waves at The Wedge. And then of course, there is the spectacular Crystal Cove National Park.
For shopping, head to Fashion Island, Lower Newport Bay, and Marine Avenue in Balboa Island.
