A 12-Minute Breathwork Practice to Cool Down Anger

In Othership’s Toronto studio, you’ll find yourself sweating it out in a massive sauna and then plunging into an icy tub, back and forth for over an hour as an instructor guides you through gentle movement and fast-paced breathwork. The whole thing is intense—and has a way of bringing you out of your head and into your body.

The point isn’t a workout but the mental game: When you’re under stress, whether from heat or cold or a hard-to-shake fixation on a difficult feeling, how do you cope? What can you learn?

Othership cofounders Robbie Bent and Amanda Laine recorded this breathwork and visualization practice for processing hot emotions like anger. It’s good for days when cooling off could help you work with your feelings, not against them.

For more, Othership’s breathwork app has audio-guided practices as short as a couple of minutes and as long as an hour, designed to cultivate feelings of gratitude, quell negative self-talk, or journey through consciousness. If you’re Toronto-based, the in-person bathhouse studio is something to behold.
