Dare to Dream

If you had a magic wand and cost were no object, what would your dream home look like? Would it be in the city, at the water’s edge, in the wide-open space of desert or plains, or on top of a mountain? What passions would it showcase?

With the completion of 924 Bel Air Road, we can now see how Bruce Makowsky pictures the ultimate dream residence. As inspiration, he offers the words of Sir Henry Royce, the scion of Rolls-Royce along with Charles Rolls, “Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it.”

Seeing an opportunity to create luxury real estate “for the super wealthy,” Makowsky and BAM Luxury Development set out “to create the most extraordinary, exciting and dramatic contemporary estate ever built.” He found his crown jewel property (which he calls “Billionaire”) on a mountainside “within the platinum triangle of Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, and Bel Air.” Noting that “The budget was there is no budget,” Makowsky personally curated every detail of the $250 million mansion.

With 270-degree views from the San Gabriel Mountains to Malibu, the fully-furnished, 38,000 square foot estate includes “over a hundred incredible art installations.” Four years under construction, the 12-bedroom, 21-bathroom residence features a 4K Dolby Atmos home theater with leather seating for 40 guests, an 85-foot glass tile infinity pool, a 16-car automobile gallery stocked with $30 million in classic vehicles, two fully stocked wine-champagne cellars, a wall of candy dispensers in the game room, three kitchens, five bars, and 17,000 square feet of decks for outdoor entertaining. Did we mention the four-lane bowling alley? The spa and fitness center? The staff of seven?

Makowsky’s bigger-than-life art collection features a huge, polished stainless steel Leica camera sculpture by artist Yibai Liao, a deactivated Bell 222A helicopter previously seen on the television series Airwolf, a collection of “the finest and most opulent custom guitars in the world,” and a chrome-plated machine gun sculpture by artist Gale Hart. And that’s just the beginning.

Makowsky, who has built eight other spec homes in Los Angeles, is confident that there is a buyer for “Billionaire” and so am I! There are already rumors of offers.
