Ultra-Rare 2014 McLaren P1 Goes To Auction Today At Sotheby’s Motorsport

By Josh Max

Barry Skolnick’s The Ikonick Collection is one of the most renowned car collections in the world, in case you didn’t know. With more than 125 supercars, hypercars and classic-grade vehicles, an Ikonick offering is bound to be something special.

For the first time, two vehicles from the collection will be available to the public for bidding—a 2014 McLaren P1 with a starting bid of $1 million and a 2017 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster starting at $300,000.

The P1 was as close to perfection as Mac fans knew at the time with its plush, cruel curves, massive power and equally massive price tag. It also wasn’t available soon after manufacture due to the 375 models the company made being immediately snapped up by deep-pocketed aficionados besotted by its 3.8-liter 727-horsepower V-8 paired with a 177-hp electric motor. That’s a total of 903 horsepower. It also has a hydro-pneumatic suspension, electro-hydraulically assisted steering and a rear wing extending almost 12 inches. It’ll boogie from zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and top speed is a (governed) 217 mph.

There are other exotics that will match those specs, of course, but what makes the P1’s achievement unique is its electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that combines with a plethora of power electronics into a cohesive whole, one that will impress even the most jaded critics.

Skolnick’s second vehicle is a 2017 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster he purchased new. Available starting Oct. 19 through Nov. 2 with a starting bid of $300,000, this SV Roadster boasts a gorgeous Rosso finish and custom exterior components by Novitec, and comes with less than 400 miles.

The Aventador SV is powered by a 6.5-liter V12, the 740-horsepower engine delivering 509 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed automated single-clutch transmission to all four wheels, and was limited to just 600 examples. It’s all razor-sharp angles, sweet-looking carbon fiber accents, gaping vents and everything else every Lamborghini aficionado requires.

“We’re honored to be listing part of Barry’s famed collection,” says Chip Perry, CEO of Sotheby’s Motorsport. “The Ikonick Collection is one of the greatest compilations of supercars and art in the world, and it is a true privilege to host the first public auction from the Collection. Barry is an icon in the luxury collector’s space, known for curating only the best of the best.”

Unlike many collectors who keep their collections behind closed doors, Skolnick decided to share his with the world by opening The Ikonick Collection. Housed in Miami, Florida, The Ikonick Collection is equal parts art gallery, garage and event space. Visitors can view over 150 curated automobiles alongside sculptures and paintings from local and world-famous artists.

Sotheby’s Motorsport is currently available for buyers globally and sellers with vehicles registered in the United States. To view and bid on the listings, visit sothebysmotorsport.com.
